This series is from YAMAZAKI’s early period, when he had just begun his work as a photographer. His portraits of TERAYAMA Shuji, HIJIKATA Tatsumi, AKASEGAWA Genpei,AWATSU Kiyoshi, and other avant-garde figures in the arts and his documentary films of those arts in action give a sense of the path he followed in establishing his own photographic style.
