Biermann, a friend of Franz Roh, was a self-taught photographer. Her works were shown in Film und Foto and other major exhibitions. She had only begun to be recognized when she died at the age of 35. She paid special attention to effective use of light and made the people around her and familiar, everyday landscapes her subjects, drawing from their depths a fresh appeal.
