The location is Ritsurin Park in Takamatsu on Shikoku. The photograph was shot using a Verito soft-focus lens produced by Wollensak in the U.S.A. and imported by the Konishi main store in 1914. The chromatic and spherical aberration produced by this lens opened up new possibilities in soft focus and made it popular with pictorialist photographers around the world. Here the shadow of the tree falling on a white wall shows the characteristics of the Wollensak lens particularly effectively.
