Chair いす　[Sedia]

Zorio started his artistic career in the latter half of the sixties, and he is one of the youngest artists in the "Arte Povera" group. "Arte Povera" is often compared to the "Mono-ha" in Japan in its use of material and ways of presenting concepts. Zorio made "Chair" when he was 22. His father was involved in the construction business, so the artist had many opportunities to see construction sites, and that is probably why he is attracted to materials like pipes and cement and uses them in his work. This work is constructed with cement, a material that starts out in a liquid state and hardens to a solid, and urethane foam, a soft substance. These materials are supported by a structure of pipes. The work presents easily-read contrasts between soft and hard materials and the heavy massive forms of the cement and the lines of the pipe structure which support them. Also, the blue paint on the pipes and the colorful urethane foam make this piece both cheerful and symbolic.
