Nguyen Thi Thai, a 25-year-old mother, holds Ha, 10 months old, who was born with missing right arm and left forearm. Ha also had a chloracne-like skin rash. Her mother was 12 years old when she was exposed to defoliant from a U.S. military plane. The organochlorine defoliant Agent Orange contained 2378-TCDD (dioxin), which is both carcinogenic and teratogenic (Tay Ninh Province, Loc Hung Village, 1981).

Vietnam Operation to invade Laos by the South Vietnamese government forces. About 25 kilometers from the Lao border, armored vehicle units touched a minefield and exploded with a loud noise.
