From 1931 to 1932, the photographer, who operated a commercial photography studio in Fukuoka, joined a group of photographers, including KIMURA Senichi and NAKAYAMA Masakazu, in a trip around the world to investigate the state of photography in Europe and America. For this work, a print was made of a photograph taken during that trip, bent into a curve, and the print itself photographed. The poetic qualities of the image evoke a fairy-tale world and capture in a single image the exoticism and aspiration that foreign countries represented for this photographer.
