This appears to be a variant made from the same plate as Snowy Mountain Twilight, a work shown at the third Ginreisha exhibition in May 1930 and published in the November 1930 edition of Shashin geppo. Kometani Koro, who was also a member of Ginreisha, wrote that, “Its seductiveness is due to the rich, full-bodied flavor of the gum-bichromate print, a Ginreisha forte.” Recent research suggests that this work, which hardly seems to be a photograph at all, appears to be the result of reversing light and dark in the negative of a photograph of mountains shot at midday in summer.
