This photograph won third prize at the tenth Kenten (February, 1920). Usually a photosensitive emulsion, a mixture of gum arabic, pigment, potassium dichromate, and other ingredients, is applied to a paper base. In this unusual example, the base is canvas instead of paper. The composition is quite orthodox, but the effect of the entire picture plane brimming with light is distinctive and is indicative the limpid approach to observation of nature that MASUKO adopted. As this image suggests, he occupied a unique position within the Aiyu Photography Club.
