Green and rose spheres float against the background of deep pink. Subtly shaded spheres of various sizes repeat themselves in an asymmetric pattern and form an organic link with one another. Layers of paint, each faintly showing the color underneath, give depth to the overall coloring and matiere. The coloring, the brushstrokes, and the composition combine to create an illusion of three-dimensional depth in this two-dimensional work. The exquisite balance holding the pink background and the spheres together is characteristic of Tatsuno's works at this period. Tatsuno, who made Minimalist prints and drawings with stripes and grids in the 1970s, started to produce paintings stressing the matiere of oil paint in the 1980s.
