A work same as this is collected in “AN ORIGINAL ALBUM OF 24 CARTE-DE-VISITE PHOTOGRAPHS OF JAPANESE SUBJECTS, c.1866-67.” The photographs in this album were taken in May 1867 or earlier. Until now, it has been impossible to date Renjo’s genre photographs, except to say they were taken between 1863 until 1876. This album allows us to narrow this down considerably, to between 1863 and 1867. The discovery of this album made this work possible to assume the production period of this five years.
